Wigan Warriors Women held their annual end of season awards at the DW Stadium on Saturday night as they celebrated their 2023 season.
2023 Player of the Year – Anna Davies
Sponsored by Global-13, Anna Davies was awarded 2023 Women’s Player of the Year. The first of her awards on Saturday evening saw the Warriors winger crowned Player of the Year after a tenacious attitude throughout the 2023 season.
2023 Young Player of the Year – Eva Hunter
After making her debut in 2022 from the Women’s Academy, Eva Hunter was a regular in the 2023 season, taking to the field 13 times and scoring one try against York Valkyrie. Her relentless performances earned her the 2023 Young Player of the Year award, which was presented by Sean O’Loughlin.
2023 Academy Player of the Year – Emma Welsford
Sponsored by Greenmount Projects, Emma Welsford took the 2023 Girls’ Academy Player of the Year award. An ever-present for the Wigan Warriors Girls Academy this year, Welsford has shown consistent form for John Whalley’s side.
2023 Top Try Scorer – Anna Davies
Anna Davies’ second award of the evening was for Top Try Scorer. The Warriors winger has had her best scoring return since joining Wigan, crossing for nine tries in League and Cup competition in 2023.
2023 Warrior of the Year, ‘Katie’s Award’- Vicky Molyneux
Sponsored by Katie’s Yard, Vicky Molyneux was chosen as the 2023 Warrior of the Year for her leadership on and off the field, as well as her consistent performances through the season.
2023 Players’ Player of the Year – Anna Davies
Anna Davies won a third award on the night, as she was voted by her teammates as ‘Players’ Player of the Year’.
Davies took the majority in a vote conducted amongst the Warriors Women’s First Team.
2023 Coaches Award – Vicky Molyneux
The final award of the night was the Coaches Award which was won by Vicky Molyneux. Head Coach Kris Ratcliffe, along with his staff voted unanimously for the Warriors forward for her committed efforts to the team in 2023.
2023 Heritage Numbers
Club historian, Keith Sutch spoke to the squad about the importance of a Wigan Warriors Heritage Number as Wigan awarded certificates to our five latest debutants from the 2023 season.

Finally, the Club thanked Kris Ratcliffe for his services over the past five years as he departs his role as Women’s team Head Coach. Ratcliffe joined the Women’s staff as Assistant Coach at the end of 2017 as the Warriors put together their squad for their inaugural Women’s Super League campaign, which ended in a Grand Final victory in 2018.
Ratcliffe has been in charge of the team since June 2019 and has overseen a period of transition where several young players have been brought into the side.
On the night, Sean O’Loughlin presented Ratcliffe with a bottle of 14-year-old Loch Lomond Whisky, whilst Captain Rachel Thompson presented him with a signed Women’s shirt and some other gifts from his team and staff.
