Willie Isa returned from injury to make his 200th Wigan appearance as the Warriors beat Hull KR 42-12 to book a place in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.
Isa came off the bench to play his first minutes since July, and on hitting the milestone, the second rower said: “It’s a great achievement for me and it’s something as well which I’ll look back on. It was a great win out there and I’m looking forward to next week.”
Speaking on his return, Isa said: “I felt good out there. I trusted the work I’ve been doing and I trusted the work the physios put me through. You’ve just got to make sure you put your foot forward in the game to get the win.”
Praising the Warriors for the victory over an in-form Hull KR side, Isa said: “We made sure we stuck to our plan and we were able to enjoy the game. Credit to our guys who right from the start went well and played our game.”
On the five matches against Hull KR this season, Isa said: “We’ve always had great battles against Hull KR who are a great team with a great coach. They would have come here expecting to play better and to have thrown the ball around more, but we minimised that as much as we could.”
The Warriors will face Catalans Dragons in the Grand Final at Old Trafford next Saturday, and on the French opponents, Isa said: “They’re a great team with great players and some fantastic individuals so it’s no surprise they won last night as well. It’s going to be a great battle next weekend.”
Looking ahead to the Grand Final, Isa said: “We’ll do our homework but we just need to focus on ourselves. The hardest bit is getting to the Grand Final and now it’s just a one off game. The whole squad – staff included – have been organised and put in a lot of effort so it’s just about doing and presenting ourselves the best we can.”
Tickets for the Super League Grand Final will go on general sale from 10am on Sunday 8 October. Supporters will be able to purchase tickets from the DW Stadium Ticket Office or online HERE. For full ticketing information please click HERE.
