Liam Marshall has praised the ‘incredible support’ ahead of Saturday’s Super League play-off semi-final against Hull KR at the DW Stadium.
Reflecting on lifting the League Leaders’ Shield last time out, Marshall said: “It seems a long time ago now but it was a great way to finish off the regular part of the season. It was a game we needed against a good Leigh team, and it was a great achievement and reward to lift the shield based on how strong we finished the season.”
On the Warriors’ preparation ahead of the semi-final, Marshall said: “We trained pretty tough throughout the week off from playing and we also looked at some things heading into the semi-final. We got a lot out of the week and now we are building on that ahead of a massive game on Saturday.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s opponents Hull KR, the winger said: “The battles we’ve had against Hull KR this season have been tough. They’re a very talented side with a lot of quality individuals and we’ll need to be on top of our game to get the win. We won’t be taking them lightly and it’s important we turn up with the right attitude to give ourselves the best chance of reaching the Grand Final.”
If selected, Marshall will make his 150th appearance for the Warriors this weekend, and on the milestone, he said: “It doesn’t seem that long ago since I made my 100th appearance last season, but this one would be a massive one to hit. I’m really humbled and proud to have played this many games for this great club, but Saturday is just about getting the win.”
Speaking on his positive mindset, Marshall said: “The way I look at things in life is that you can’t change or affect what’s going on, so you can either be negative about it or try and look at the positives. Sitting around sulking wasn’t going to change the injuries I’ve had, so it was just about remaining as positive as I could around the place and taking each day as it comes.”
On being a leader in the current squad, Marshall said: “With being one of the older lads in the side I’ve been trying to become more of a leader over the last 12 months or so. There’s a time and place for having a laugh, but there’s also the time where you need to knuckle down and switch on. We’ve got the balance right and that’s perfect.”
On what it would mean to reach the Grand Final, Marshall added: “It would be massive as every player sets out to play in those big matches. It would be incredible to play in a Grand Final but first we have a massive semi-final against Hull KR who will be wanting the same outcome and that big dance at Old Trafford.”
Praising the support, Marshall said: “Firstly I’d like to say a massive thanks for the home and away support this season which has been incredible. We need all your support on Saturday and as much as people think you don’t play a big part, you do.
“Having that support behind us gives us that extra bit which goes a long way – hopefully we can get the win for you supporters.”
