Peet Previews Semi-Final

  • Matt Peet looks ahead to Saturdayโ€™s Betfred Super League play-off semi-final against Hull KR.
  • Peet: “We’re confident that if we bring the best of us then we can be a match for anybody and we can’t wait for it.”
  • Wigan Warriors v Hull KR, Saturday 7 October, 12:45pm K.O, DW Stadium.

Matt Peet spoke to the press on Tuesday afternoon as the Warriors prepare to face Hull KR in the Betfred Super League play-off semi-final at the DW Stadium.

Speaking on Hull KR, Peet said: “We will be coming up against a fantastic team who deserve their place in the semi-final after investing a lot of hard work all season. We’re going to have to be at our best to stand any chance of progressing.”

On the preparation for the clash, Peet said: “We’ve spoken a little bit on the occasion and how we need to manage that, but a lot of the hard work’s been done. Now it comes down to whichever team executes their game the best for the whole 80 minutes.”

Reflecting on the lessons the Warriors have learned this season, Peet said: “What we’ve learned is that we are a very collective group, with plenty of ability, who are very committed to one another. Things can always go wrong again, but lots of our performances have been improving week-on-week.”

Peet added: “What it’s about now is combining all the lessons we’ve learned throughout the season and executing those lessons in this game.”

Speaking on motivation, Peet said: “You set off on your journey and one by one each team falls until there’s two in the Grand Final. We’re confident that if we bring the best of us then we can be a match for anybody and we can’t wait for it.”

When asked about losing to Hull KR in the Challenge Cup semi-final, Peet said: “We spoke short term about channelling our pain into energy, but it hasn’t been mentioned this week. We talk more on the excitement of progressing and the people we want to prove right, rather than righting the wrongs.”

Calling on the importance of the home support, Peet said: “It’s going to be a fantastic occasion and a fantastic atmosphere. I encourage all our fans to support us and to not look past this game as in recent years we’ve learned these fixtures can go either way.”
