“We’ve had games like that tonight where we have lost, so it was nice to come out on the winning side. I’m just glad to get what could be an important two points.”

The Warriors came from 12-4 behind to take the match to golden point with three minutes to go, before the contest was won after 88 minutes when Harry Smith slotted a 43m drop goal to claim the points.

Reflecting on the winning moment, Peet said: “It took a moment of brilliance to win it and that’s credit to Harry. It was a massive moment and that kick is what the game will be remembered for.”

Peet added: “It had been a tough night for him up until that moment. He has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders with goal and field kicking, and it looked as though it wasn’t going to be for him. However, he nailed the one that mattered to get us the two points and I’m made up for him.”

Speaking on Hull FC, Peet said: “They are a team made up of very good players and they came here full of confidence. Like us they will have moments they’ll look back on and rue, but they combined their desperation with their energy, and their fans will be proud of their commitment up until the death.”

Liam Byrne returned to the side to make his 100th appearance for the Warriors, and speaking on the achievement, Peet said: “It was a big night for Liam and I thought he played really well with the way he carried the ball. We are very proud of Liam and I’m pleased that the lads were able to get the win for him in the end.”

Sam Powell came off the bench to play his first Super League minutes since June, and speaking on the hooker’s performance, Peet said: “He was very good. He showed some good moments of composure and control, and his game management turned out to be important.”

Looking ahead to the Warriors’ next clash at league leaders Catalans Dragons, Peet said: “Next week will be a different kind of game. Catalans have been the benchmark team in the competition all season and it’s always a great atmosphere playing in front of the French support. It’s important we rest up, but we are looking forward to the week ahead.”
