Wigan Warriors winger Abbas Miski has shared his delight in winning back-to-back Open Exchange Player of the Month awards, as voted by the Warriors supporters.

After scoring in each of the Warriors’ matches in June, Miski crossed for a hat-trick in a stand out performance against Leigh Leopards which helped the winger win the award for a second month running.

The Lebanese international has already made a firing start to August after he crossed four times in our win against Hull KR last time out.

Speaking on being voted July’s Player of the Month, Miski said: “I’m delighted that the fans are happy with me and I’m really grateful to have won the award. The team as a whole have been putting in some good performances, and luckily I’ve been on the back of some really good shape which has allowed me to get a few tries.”

The winger has scored a variety of tries this campaign, and when asked about his finishing ability, Miski said: “We have been working hard on combinations in attack and defence so to be scoring both types of tries is something as a team we are happy about. In training I just try to mimic what I’d do in a match, but most the time it’s just the instinct of being in the moment.”

Bevan French (8) and Toby King (5) have assisted more than half of Miski’s tries this season, and speaking on the connection with the duo, Miski said: “The right side has had a lot of changes throughout the year which made it hard to maintain consistent combinations. Toby knows how I play, I know how he does, and now we are working more with Kai [Pearce-Paul] and Bevan [French] to improve our connection.”

The Warriors spent Monday night camping in the Lake District before the squad completed a full training day at Sale Sharks’ Carrington Training Ground facility on Wednesday.

Reflecting on the week, Miski said: “It’s been really good. We went camping which was something different, but we enjoyed our time there and it was good to keep the lads together. We hoped the rain would hold off – which it didn’t – but we were still able to play games, have a good barbecue and enjoy each others company.

“Sometimes it gets a bit monotonous going to the same place so this [training at Sale Sharks] was a different experience for us and one that’s been really good. Sale are a very good club with top facilities, and we were able to complete a good morning session on the grass to put ourselves in a really good position to enjoy this break without going overboard and losing all the progress we have made.”

The Warriors will be aiming to strengthen their play-off position with two more points against Hull FC next Friday night, and speaking on the rest before the upcoming period, Miski added: “It’s crucial both physically in terms of getting our bodies right for the rest of the season, but also mentally.

“We wanted to be in the Challenge Cup final this weekend, but sometimes this can be a blessing in disguise for the end of the year. This weekend off will give us the opportunity to rest physically and mentally before having a big emphasis on finishing the season where we want to finish.”

Tickets for our Super League fixture against Hull FC at the DW Stadium on Friday 18 August (8pm K.O.) are now on sale. Supporters can purchase tickets from the DW Stadium Ticket Office, or online HERE.
