Peet previews Warrington
- Matt Peet looks ahead to Friday’s Heritage Round clash with Warrington Wolves.
- Peet: “It’s an exciting night and we have to play our part by delivering on the field.”
- Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves, DW Stadium, Friday 14th July, 8pm K.O.
Matt Peet says he is looking forward to a ‘exciting’ night as the Warriors play in a double header occasion on Heritage Round at the DW Stadium.
On Heritage Round, Peet said: “It’s an exciting night and we have to play our part by delivering on the field.
“It’s special to us all that the Academy get to play before us. It’s a special night for both sets of players at Academy level, it’s good for Warrington as well as Wigan. The players get to perform on a big stage, shared with the fans and their families.
We’re really proud of our lads who take to the field, I know they’ll be determined to perform but I really hope they all enjoy the occasion and for those players as they progress, it will stand them in good stead.”
He added: “The Heritage evening is everything we’re about as a Club. Our history, we’ve had some unbelievably special players but also players who might played one, five or twenty games – they are all part of this Club and we love the fact that we get chance to celebrate them.
“It’s a good night for us to nod our heads in thanks and gratitude for those that have gone before us and a big celebration of the Club from top to bottom.”
It was announced on Wednesday morning that Hooker Brad O’Neill has signed a new four-year deal with the Club as Peet said: “With the way he is playing and the fact he is a product of our system – there’s a lot of delight there. Brad was always keen to stay around – he’s a good kid.”
Looking at Friday’s opponents, Warrington Wolves, Head Coach Matt Peet said: “In line with most of the competition, they’re probably striving for some consistency. I say it most weeks, you have to prepare for the best of them.
“Their energy and effort against St Helens last week was right up there and they’ll be looking to build on that. We’re well aware of the threats they bring, we’ve played each other twice already this year so there won’t be a great deal of surprises either way – it will be who plays best for the 80 minutes and executes their plan best.
“It should be a fantastic clash for everyone involved, including the spectators. It’s two proud Clubs and will no doubt be a full blooded encounter.”
