Wigan Warriors Women’s Holly Speakman looks ahead to Sunday’s Betfred Women’s Super League clash away to York Valkyrie.

Reflecting on the 2023 season so far, she said: “We’ve had a good start to the season. We got through to the Final of the Women’s Nines last weekend and we’re in the Challenge Cup Semi Final and I think our squad is getting better and better each week.”

She added: “We are seeing the team grow in confidence and our best performance was definitely against Huddersfield in the Quarter-Finals of the Challenge Cup – we worked hard in training and it showed on the field. Also, the game away at St Helens, even though we didn’t come away with a win the performance from all the girls was brilliant and a huge step in the right direction.”

Speaking on the confidence taken from last weekend’s Nines Finals, Speakman said: “The team was on a high after the game, it showed that we can play with the best but that game has gone and we need to focus on the game ahead now.

“The team is growing week-by-week, we have great athletic bodies in the team and that showed in the Nines. It’s exciting to be around those young players that are building in confidence and showcasing their skills.”

Speakman, who has made the most appearances for the Warriors since making her debut in 2018, added: “I’m loving my Rugby at the moment. It’s very different this year with new girls coming in but they have brought energy and enthusiasm in training and on the pitch and I’m enjoying the vibe that is in the team this year.”

The Warriors Women are back in action on home soil at Robin Park Arena next Sunday 9th July (12pm K.O.) as they take on Leeds Rhinos.
