  • Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants, Friday 30 June, DW Stadium, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet spoke to the press on Tuesday morning ahead of our Betfred Super League clash with Huddersfield Giants at the DW Stadium.

The Warriors followed up their Challenge Cup Quarter Final success with an impressive 26-6 win at Salford Red Devils, as Liam Farrell (x2), Abbas Miski and Liam Marshall all scored tries at the Salford Stadium.

Reflecting on the result, Peet said: “It was a pleasing performance, and I enjoyed it more watching it back. I always knew Salford would be tough fixture regardless of their form. It was a game where we could well have got turned over if we weren’t at it from the start, but we started with intent and I was pleased with the lads’ approach to the game and their professionalism. We got what we deserved.”

Following the match the Club announced a trio of signings, which will see Kruise Leeming, Sam Walters and Tiaki Chan join the Warriors for the 2024 campaign.

Speaking on the new additions, Peet said: “It’s exciting and I believe each player will add to Club. It’s also good to see the Club’s ambitious visions for the future. However, they’re for next year and I’m just focusing on our upcoming games.”

The Warriors host a Huddersfield Giants side who have lost their last three matches on Friday night, as Super League action returns to the DW Stadium for the first time since mid-May.

Looking ahead to the fixture, Peet said: “We have to prepare for the best in Huddersfield and to anticipate a much improved outfit. They’ve had a tough few weeks, but they have high quality players who can threaten and a coach who is very determined. We are very aware of what we’ll face on Friday night.”

Speaking on recent performances, Peet added: “We can’t shy away from the fact we need to build some consistent league form now in order to climb up the table and hold a decent league position. In the last few weeks we have shown some consistency in our combinations through the spine, and that we have defended well. What we shown last week won’t be good enough this week. We have to improve, step it up another level and that’s what we are aiming to do.”

Friday night’s fixture at the DW Stadium will see the Warriors show its appreciation towards all Blue Light Card holders, who can redeem discounted tickets for the match.

On Blue Light Night, Peet said: “Here at the club we make different sections of the community feel valued and welcomed. Blue Light members do such an important job and they deserve these offers. They sacrifice a lot, work in tough lines of work, and this is just a small way the Club can show its appreciation to those people. We also want to introduce more fans to the game, and hopefully we can do our bit on the pitch to make it an entertaining night and send them home happy.”
