Matt Peet praised the professionalism and commitment of his Wigan Warriors side after a 26-6 victory over Salford Red Devils at the Salford Stadium.

Speaking on the result, Peet said: “It’s about finding the right balance of taking every opportunity you see and building a game through ending sets well which I thought we done really well. Two points is always going to be pleasing away from home against a strong Salford side, and I thought the way we done it was very professional and committed.”

After a closely contested first half, which saw the Warriors lead 8-6 at the break, Abbas Miski scored for the fifth consecutive match to take his Super League try total to eight for the season.

Speaking on Miski’s performance, Peet said: “It’s a credit to his work away from the field. He’ll always get a mention when he crosses the try line, but quite often if you look at our kick-chasing and defence scrambles he’s right in the picture. There’s so much to like about him.”

Liam Marshall sealed the victory when he collected a loose ball before sprinting more than 80m to touch down between the sticks.

On Marshall’s try, Peet said: “I just told him then it was classic! It’s credit to our scramble defence on that left edge and Liam’s reaction.”

Victory takes Wigan up to third in the table, however, Peet said the standings isn’t something the Warriors are focusing on: “It’s not something we talk about that much as we speak more on getting performances and results as well as being consistent throughout the year.

“Every squad is tested this time of the year so it’s important to stay healthy and build consistency. The league table is very interesting, but for us it’s about building momentum without getting too carried away.”

The Warriors are back in action at the DW Stadium on Friday night, and looking ahead to the clash against Huddersfield Giants, Peet said: “We won’t have a big training week which means we’ll have to be at our energetic best. We will be expecting an enthusiastic start from Huddersfield so we have to be ready for that.”
