Matt Peet spoke of his proudness of his Warriors side to progress to the Semi Final of the Challenge Cup after a 14-12 victory over Warrington Wolves at the DW Stadium.

Speaking on the performance, Peet said: “I’m proud of the team and how we showed a huge amount of endeavour. The lads never gave in, and their commitment to the cause and to each other was evident.

“There was a will to win, we had the right attitude to build pressure in the first half, and it’s a blueprint of how we want to play.”

Reflecting on his side’s response to being reduced to 12 men, Peet said: “Something we speak about a lot is our reaction. There were a few things that went on in the game, and I thought in general our reaction to them was very good.

“The game was very dramatic and you can’t have a massive amount of impact on that during the game. As a coach you’ve got to trust the lads and hope that in the end things go your way – today it paid off.”

Ethan Havard marked his return from injury with a Man of the Match performance, and speaking on the prop forward, Peet said: “Ethan’s massive for us. I don’t like talking too much about individuals when they aren’t in the team, but I was very confident he would make a big impact as I know what he is capable of.”

Speaking on Harry Smith, who was named the BBC Man of the Match, Peet said: “He was outstanding. His goal kicks were massive, I liked his toughness to turning up all over the field, and that’s what makes him a Wigan player and is why we stick with him.

“He has those ingredients in him, and we support him because he works hard and he’s committed, and he has the ability to do it in the biggest games, which he showed today.”

Looking ahead to the Challenge Cup Semi Final against Hull KR, Peet said: “We got a taste of winning this competition last year and I know that the lads and town loved it. We’ve played two epic games so far, and at the moment it seems to be bringing out the best in us.”
