Cade Cust says Wigan Warriors need to ‘right some wrongs’ in Sunday’s Challenge Cup Quarter Final against Warrington Wolves at the DW Stadium.

Cust made only his second appearance since March when he came off the bench at St Helens, after he missed two months due to a neck injury.

Reflecting on his injury, Cust said: “It’s been frustrating being in and out with a couple of injuries in there, but I’m feeling good now. I had a slipped disk in my neck which pressed on the nerves and caused tingling in my fingers and no strength in my triceps. I had to do no contact for four weeks while waiting for it to slowly release off the nerve, and then after six weeks I had a scan which said I was all good.”

Cust featured in the halves when he came off the bench against Catalans Dragons at Magic Weekend, before playing as a hooker at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

When asked about playing in the hooker role, Cust said: “The nine position is something I’ve been working on in the last three or four weeks, and I’m comfortable playing there after my time at Manly Sea Eagles. It’s not a position I’m unfamiliar with, I’m happy playing there, but at the minute it’s just about getting that match fitness and hopefully cementing a spot.”

Speaking on the rotation in the halves, Cust added: “We train a lot and it’s been working there, so it’s just about putting it together for the 80 minutes in a match. We haven’t clicked in attack in recent weeks, but we have to keep working hard in training and I have every confidence we will get back to the way it used to be.”

On the Challenge Cup, Cust said: “It’s an ureal competition which provides the lower clubs with an opportunity. When we enter you need to win four games to lift the trophy, and there’s a lot of hunger in our squad to do so. Winning this cup last year was one of the best moments in my career so I’m looking forward to this weekend and hopefully being able to win it again.”

Wigan return to the DW Stadium on Sunday for the first time since mid-May after the completion of pitch maintenance, and Cust is looking forward to being back in front of the home support.

He said: “Being back at home certainly helps. Warrington have been class this season so we are expecting a tough game, but I’m looking forward to the roar and hearing everyone behind us. We’ve been working hard in training over the last few days so hopefully we can put in a good performance in front of our fans and right some wrongs.”
