Peet previews Warrington

Matt Peet told the press on Wednesday afternoon that being back at the DW Stadium is a ‘massive boost’ ahead of Sunday’s Challenge Cup Quarter Final clash with Warrington Wolves.

The Warriors return to the DW Stadium for the first time since mid-May this weekend, after playing the last four matches away from home due to pitch maintenance.

Speaking on returning to the DW, Peet said: “When cup draws are made the first thing you hope for is a home draw, and we have been fortunate to get that. Being at home for this tie is a massive boost for everyone and we need to put in a performance the fans can be proud of. Hopefully we can get a decent turnout.”

Wigan defeated Warrington in Round 9 of Super League back in April, and looking ahead to a second clash, Peet said: “Warrington are a very good team with a good balance. Their obvious threats are their massive forward pack, their powerful middle and their fast runners. Our main focus is getting back to our best and improving our own performance before we start looking at Warrington.”

Peet added: “The last time we met we were both flying, but since then we have both had dips. Neither team will be happy with their recent form, but I’m sure both teams will find their best form before the end of the season. Whichever team will be able to get closest to their best on Sunday will win.”

Speaking on mentality, Peet said: “This team knows they are capable of winning big games – that’s for sure. We understand Sunday is a do or die game, but we enjoy these situations. Even if we were winning every week we would still feel an equal responsibility to get in, do our best, and help players improve.

“You hope for a 10/10 performance every week but we understand sometimes other things happen. What’s important is you don’t overreact, you work hard, and you find a way of it.”
