Alcedo Futures continued success

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Alcedo Futures Days continue to be a huge success with a high participation rate in the recent May half term.

The session saw over 200 participants ranging from 11-16 (u12’s-u16’s) take part with sessions including content of core skill activities such as catch and pass, grip and carry and decision making.

This content then followed on into small sided games, complementing the skill they had learned in the drills. In Partnership with our youth performance department, we also had over 10 coaches from volunteers to Foundation coaches taking part in CPD in these sessions.

Community Development Officer, Tom Marsh, said: “It’s good to see the numbers on our Alcedo futures sessions keeping high throughout the year. This shows that the players want to learn and improve their skills to take back to their schools and Community Clubs.

“The next sessions we are running in our Alcedo Futures programmes are going to be on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout July and August and these will include in-house festivals and fixtures with other Foundations in the North West.”

Wigan Warriors Head of Youth, Shane Eccles, added: “Working in partnership with the Community Foundation we have provided some excellent sessions so far this year. These sessions during the Half term were excellently attended and there was some fantastic skill on display.

“To be able to work closely with the young players and help them develop is what these sessions are about. We will now start our summer programme on Wednesday 7th June where players have the opportunity to be involved in weekly sessions which will lead up to games festivals. Its brilliant that we can offer these sessions for the players and provide them with more opportunities to develop their skills.”
