Women’s Match Preview: Salford
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Wigan Warriors Women’s final 2023 Betfred Challenge Cup group stage game against Salford Red Devils. The Warriors Women face the Red Devils at Robin Park Arena on Sunday 21st May (12pm K.O.).
Following on from their opening group stage wins away to Cardiff Demons (38-20) and Featherstone Rovers (10-12) the Warriors have already booked their spot in the next round of the Women’s Challenge Cup.
The final group game sees them face Salford Red Devils at Robin Park Arena, the Women’s first home game of 2023.
Squad News
Kris Ratcliffe has named his Women’s squad to face Salford on Sunday afternoon. Cailey Miller is named for the first time in 2023 following a lengthy injury:
Head-to-head
This will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides, though Wigan and Salford have faced off in pre-season previously, including a 38-4 win for the Warriors in March of this year.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Wigan’s Jodie Morris said: “Going into this weekend, we can expect Salford to be ready and raring to go especially after the defeat for them during pre season. Salford will bring everything to the game and not leave anything on the field, they are a big, physical and agile side who when given time, perform very well. They will challenge us all over the field with everything they have but I’m sure our pack will be prepared for it.”
She added: “With it being the first home game of the season, the team are very excited – especially to perform in front of a home crowd and show them how much our pre season has paid off. Not only that, but to inspire the next generation, so this is a massive push and encouragement to perform and get the win for the girls.”

Spectators can join us at Robin Park Arena on Sunday. Entry is £5 Adults and £3 Concessions, please note that free entry for Season Ticket Holders is not applicable due to being a Challenge Cup fixture.
