MND fan village slam challenge

  • Royce Banks to raise money for MND Association at this Friday’s fan village.
  • Challenge consists of slamming a 20kg slam ball into the floor 2,000 times.
  • Join us at our fan village at Robin Park Arena from 5pm on Friday 12th May.

Royce Banks will be raising money for the MND Association with an incredible challenge in our Robin Park fan village ahead of our clash with Leeds Rhinos.

Local man Royce, 67, who runs Royce’s Health and Fitness Centre in Wigan, will be testing his body to the limit on Friday when he attempts to smash his own record of slamming a 20kg ball into the floor 2,000 times in two and a half hours – 13 slams every minute.

Royce has chosen to complete the challenge ahead of our fixture with Leeds as a tribute to former Rhino and Great Britain scrum-half Rob Burrow, who suffers with motor neurone disease.

The challenge is also in memory of Wigan born Mike Gregory, who coached the Warriors in 2003-2004, and Paul Darbyshire, who played for and was involved with Warrington Wolves for 18 years.

Speaking on the challenge, Royce said: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge. I train on a regular basis and I am confident I can hit 2,000. The main issue are my hands. If my hands get too hot it can’t be done so we will have electric fans keeping me cool.”

Royce continued: “It would be great to see fans of both sides on the night and better still if they can make a donation, however big or small, as all the money raised will be going to the MND Charity.”

Our Robin Park Fan Village is open from 5pm to soak up the pre-match atmosphere with free entry for all with a valid match ticket. Our Reserves team are in action against Leeds Rhinos at 5:30pm with spectators welcome to watch from the stands.

If anyone would like to support Royce and donate, you can do so via his Just Giving page HERE.
