Ethan Havard says the Warriors need to ‘bounce back’ on Friday night when they face Leeds Rhinos at the DW Stadium.

Wigan saw their six match winning run come to an end at Hull FC in Round 11, and looking back on the match Havard said: “We need to bounce back after a poor performance and put some wrongs right.

“If you’re only at 50% it can make a big difference against Hull, who are a good team and can easily roll you. I thought we did show some endeavour to comeback but it weren’t enough.”

The Warriors will be looking to get back to winning ways in front of their home support on Friday when they host Leeds Rhinos in the first of back-to-back to clashes with their Yorkshire opponents – the sides will meet in the Challenge Cup at Headingly on 20th May.

Despite losing their last two matches against Leigh Leopards and Salford Red Devils, Havard knows Wigan must be at their best to claim the two points: “I think it will be a good game as it always is against Leeds. They have their own playing style which is something we have looked at this week.

“We know they have some good outside backs who can score points, so we are expecting the best out of them and will need to be at our best.”

Speaking on the current mood around the camp, Havard said: “We all know it is a long season so you don’t want to get too high on your wins or too low on your losses. The aim is to keep the ship steady, maintain a constant moral and to have an upbeat mood around the camp in order to get the best out of each other.

“Our aim at the minute is to think about ourselves and bouncing back after a disappointing loss. We aren’t too focused on top spot right now, but just thinking what we can fix and how we can improve.”

Havard made his England debut in the recent international break, in which he was one of four Warriors to score a try in a 64-0 victory over France – along with Harry Smith, Jake Wardle and Kai Pearce-Paul.

Reflecting on the special moment, Havard said: “It is something I want to do in the rest of my career so to get a taste of the experience was good and I learnt a lot. It is good though to get back to club rugby and to kick on now for the rest of the season.”

Havard has scored two tries in 11 appearances for Warriors so far this campaign and when asked about his personal performances, the 22-year-old said: “I’ve just been enjoying my rugby too be honest and taking each week as it comes. There are definitely parts to my game that I want to improve on, parts I am good at but I am just enjoying being part of this team.”
