Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are pleased to announce the start of our gardening club from Friday 12th May.
Come and join us in our Community garden at Robin Park Arena and take part in our gardening activities every Friday 10am – 12pm.
The garden is a quiet and relaxing space for the Community to enjoy, and it is thanks to the work of local businesses and volunteers that we are now able to share this space with everyone.
We have recently received funding from the Green Spaces Fund which has enabled us to move on to the next phase of the garden, which is to provide Horticultural Therapy sessions. We will also be planting further trees, plants and flowers to create new eco systems for local wildlife to thrive.
The garden has been awarded Level 4 status (out of a possible 5 Levels) and described as ‘Thriving’ by Britain in Bloom’s Neighbourhood Awards. We aspire to reach level 5 by making the garden an ‘outstanding’ green space, both educational and therapeutic in its purpose and creating a truly unique environmental community asset for the Wigan population.
Community Foundation Assistant Manager, Claire Taylor commented: “We are so excited to offer our Community the opportunity to get involved with the Community garden. The garden is a space for everyone to enjoy, whether they want to join our activities, or just enjoy being in nature, we hope to welcome lots of visitors to the space.”
Our team chef has visited the garden and he is looking forward to his first delivery of herbs and vegetables grown from seed in our greenhouse. Team Chef, Stuart Robinson added: “It will be fantastic to provide homegrown produce to fuel our first team players.”
The Community garden is also home to our Warriors ‘Celebration wall’ which enables fans to have their piece of history at our training ground – whether that be celebrating a life, a birthday, a great achievement or simply to offer their support to Wigan Warriors.
