Greenmount girls pathway success

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation and Greenmount projects held another set of girls pathway sessions during the Easter Half term at Robin Park Arena with over 100 girls in attendance.

These camps were run over the Easter Period and have grown in numbers since February has also expanded from one session to two age specific sessions.

Throughout the sessions, players went through core skill (grip, catch and pass), play the ball and tackle techniques leading into small sided skill games where participants could put everything into practice.

These sessions are designed for participants to help improve their Rugby skills in the school holidays to take back to both their school and Community Clubs to help benefit them further throughout the season.

Rugby Development Manager, John Whalley said: “The momentum the Greenmount Development Days are now gathering is fantastic with over 100 girls attending, this is showing growth in the Community game.

“Being able to have age specific two-hour time slots instead of one group (ages 11-16) slot for 90 minutes is having a positive impact on development within our local Community and with girls travelling from as far as Penrith in Cumbria is great to see. We will have more Greenmount Development Days in the June half term holidays where I am sure we will see lots more girls attending”.
