Matt Peet spoke to the press on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Thursday’s clash with Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.

Firstly, Peet touched on the mid-season international which saw six warriors feature for the England side that beat France 64-0: “France weren’t at their best but I thought from a young England team we can take great pride and get excited about the Tonga series at the end of the year. I thought the Wigan lads played a great part in the performance and we’re really proud of them. We’ve made a fuss of them this week within the Club just to show how proud we are and hopefully we can get more England caps in the future.”

He added: “A few of our young lads played in the Lancashire Academy game on Friday night too, so it was a proud week on the whole for the Club.”

On the break in fixtures, Peet said: “We make the most of it, we’ve got some good work into the lads this week, they’ve been first class. I’m really proud of the way players are preparing for games at the moment, hopefully it shows on Thursday evening but we come up against a strong Hull FC opposition, particularly given the way they played in their last game against Huddersfield – very big steps taken there.”

On this week’s game: “It’s been a different week because some of the lads are coming off the back of the international programme and some lads had some time off. It’s been very much about each person getting themselves physically right for the game on Thursday so I feel it’s a big test for us. Not least because Hull are motivated and energised off the back of a good performance and then a break, they’ll be keen to hit the ground running after beating Huddersfield so I am well aware that this is a big challenge, Hull away is always one of the tougher games in Super League but I think we’re in for a close game.”

Finally, he said: “Up until last weekend there is no doubt that they’ve struggled for form but they beat a good Huddersfield team and they beat them in effort and energy areas, which is not easy to do. Huddersfield are a very committed team so I think they’re probably seeing it as the time when they can turn their season around and click. They’ve also got a lot of talented players.”
