Matt Peet is looking forward to the ‘occasion’ on Sunday as the Warriors host Wakefield Trinity on a family fun day at Robin Park Arena and the DW Stadium.

Reflecting on Friday’s result against Warrington, Peet said: “Result aside, I thought the performance was really pleasing. The commitment that the team showed throughout, for the whole game it was a very balanced performance. Even when we conceded a try in the first half, as Coaching staff we could see that the desperation to save the try was there and that’s all we ever ask.”

Kaide Ellis made his first starting appearance of the season as he came in at loose forward: “I think Kaide stepped up, having to start in the absence of Mike [Cooper] and Morgan [Smithies] I thought he relished the role. He took it to Warrington in attack and defence so it was really pleasing and he deserves that. He’s worked really hard so far this season, his performances have been building after a steady first year, I think he’s showing signs that he’s ready to take his game to the next level.”

Peet also commented on Abbas Miski who had another stellar performance: “Abbas similarly was patient when he wasn’t getting in but he was also training the house down, so it was quite an easy decision to make to bring him straight in once Jai [Field] got injured. He’s brought a new dimension to our attack particularly out of our own end of the field.”

On Sunday’s game against Wakefield, the Warriors Head Coach said: “The fixture would be one where you could rotate but the fact is that the lads are going to get a week off after that anyway, or most of them will, so you don’t want to be de-training them with the Hull game coming up and the following block of the season, so we’ve got to get the balance right.

“We’ll make our decisions later on in the week on how lads have come through training, we’ll look at the statistics and the loads of certain players but the fact is that we’ve got to get the job done on Sunday. It’s a big day for the Club, we want to make it an event at the DW Stadium and we want a performance that the fans can be proud of so that is our priority, not rest.”

Trinity’s visit will be their second of the season at the DW Stadium after their 60-0 defeat at the hands of the Warriors back in February: “We were coming off the back of a tough week, we’d been well beaten [away at Hull KR] and I thought we were pretty clinical but I thought that was the only game that Wakefield have been so far behind on the scoreboard. More often than not they match teams for effort and although the quality has not quite been there, we have got to be prepared for the best of them. If we’re at our best then we will get the job done on Sunday but anything less is not acceptable.

“We’ll approach Wakefield in as much detail as we do with everybody else but priority is on improving our own performances and there’s layers in our attack that we need to add and that’s what our focus is – on being a better team.”

Finally, Peet commented on the Club’s family fun day pre-game activities that will take place at Robin Park Arena: “I love the occasion and love the fact that we can play our part. Sometimes during the games it’s very focused, quite intense but I love knowing that the Club is doing so much around the fixtures and I think it brings the best out of the players.”
