Club Ambassadors gameday experiences

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation recently delivered an action packed programme of activities to local Community Clubs at Robin Park Arena before the Wigan Warriors v St Helens Good Friday Derby.

Local Club, Wigan St Jude’s played against Thatto Heath Crusaders in the Community Club derby. The U8’s fixture was played in great spirits and all juniors had a great experience taking part in their first derby. This Community derby is something both clubs are keen to continue each year and also enhance by involving more community clubs from both boroughs.

Wigan St Cuthbert’s U11s, U13s and U15s girls were all treated to a high quality training session delivered by Wigan Warriors Women’s Super League players Kaitlin Hilton, Anna Davies and girls academy Head coach, John Whalley. The sessions included skill development and some fun small, sided games. The girls were also involved in the gameday pitch experience before the Good Friday Derby at the DW Stadium.

Community Club ambassador Cockermouth Titans U14’s from Cumbria also attended the event at Robin Park Arena before the game. The team was put through a challenging contact session led by Academy conditioners James Barran and Matt Maloney in the contact area. The juniors were put through their paces before heading over to the DW Stadium and enjoyed being involved with the gameday pitch experience.

Community Club ambassador Barrow Island also had a unique Warriors experience by training with Community Foundation Coaches prior to the game, where the juniors enjoyed some evasion games and core skill development Community Foundation coach Dan Hilton.

Orrell St James’ and Wigan Warriors touch rugby juniors worked collectively to create the guard of honour for the players when they were entering the pitch at the DW Stadium. These unique experiences are available to all Community Clubs and schools that are interested in being on the DW Stadium pitch, up close to the players.

Speaking on the fantastic experiences, Assistant Head of Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Danny Fullerton said: “During the 2023 season Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are setting the standards high with the amount of Community engagement on game day, which we would like to achieve and make accessible for all ages and sexes.

“At each home game, alongside the fan village, we have a variety of fun options for all junior Warriors fans to participate in from team sessions, festivals, wheelchair exhibitions, facility tours and the inflatable challenges.
