Easter Camps a success

This Easter half term Wigan Warriors Community Foundation have delivered holiday camps to over 300 children and young people. These camps are a range of Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) along with Wigan Council and Player Camps hosted at Robin Park Arena.

Holiday Activity and Food Programme

The Holiday Activity and Food Programme provides FREE activities and access to nutritional meals for children who are in receipt of free school meals across the country. In Week commencing 3rd April we delivered HAF camps at Leigh St Thomas C of E Primary School, St Williams’ Catholic Primary School and also Robin Park Arena.

In total, Wigan Warriors Community Foundation had 255 people attending the camps across 4 days of activity. We also teamed up with BrighterDayz, Hope School, Computer Xplorers, Live Love Learn and Pies, Peas and Pirouettes to deliver some enrichment activities, delivering Rugby League, Boccia, New Age Curling and multi-sport activities.

Player Camps

On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th April, 70 children aged 5-11 attend our ‘Player Camp’ at Robin Park Arena where participants can train at Robin Park Arena, alongside the Wigan Warriors first team squad. Foundation staff led several different Rugby League activities to develop basic skills and techniques while providing participants with game related activity.

Community Outreach Manager, Mike Stoneley said: “It was great to see over 70 children booked onto our Player Camp last week. The children took part in numerous activities that had a positive impact on both the physical and emotional wellbeing of each participant. We look to engage everyone in both skill related activities and relate these to game scenarios as much as possible to provide as much playing time across the 2 days.”

Our next camps will be in May half term (Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st May) and will cost £39 for both days. More information on the camps will be released soon.
