Engage Men’s Mental health sessions

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Men’s mental fitness programme returns, under the new brand Engage. The programme has already transformed the lives of thousands of men across the North West, and returns to Wigan for 2023!

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation and Wigan council are pleased to offer the Engage programme, which helps men to focus on mental fitness and each week they will explore different topics and learn coping strategies.

Engage sessions will take place at Robin Park Arena every Friday at 5:30pm until 6:15pm, starting on Friday 21st April. You do not have to book on any of the sessions, just turn up!

Men’s Mental health officer, Matt Maloney said: “Helping and supporting Men’s mental health is something that I am extremely passionate about. The Wigan Warriors Engage programme is designed to help support Men and provide them with the tools to improve their mental health.

“Mental Health challenges come in many different forms so I will be leading the sessions and inviting many guest speakers from numerous charities down to Robin Park Arena to help make the sessions as insightful as possible. As a club, we want to create a space that men from the local area can come down to and feel supported.”

Men account for 76% of suicides in the UK, the biggest cause of death for men under 50 and a leading cause of death in young men. As a sport, we recognise that a joined-up, fresh approach to men’s mental health is required – which is why we are keen for as many people as possible to try our Engage sessions.

Each of the 10 sessions hands power back to men, giving them evidence-based tools and techniques to practice and embed within their daily lives with topics including wellbeing, mindfulness, stress management, emotional resilience, problem solving, goal setting, challenging negative thinking, resilience, anger management, work life balance and others.
