Wigan Warriors Scholarship side fell to defeat at Warrington Wolves Scholarship in a tight contest on Wednesday night.

The Warriors scored three tries in the opening forty to go in with a six-point lead at the interval, but the Wolves responded well in the second half to take the win away from Wigan.

After a battling start to the game, it was Wigan who struck first as Finlay Yeomans put in some excellent work to evade a number of tackles before scoring close to the posts. The conversion was unsuccessful as Wigan led 4-0.

Just a few minutes later and Wigan were in again as Owens found his way over from dummy half, extending Wigan’s lead to 8-0 with an unsuccessful conversion.

Warrington hit back in the 25th minute as Asatiani, off the interchange bench, sent a ball to fellow substitute Oliver Morgan to crash over, Bishop converted for 6-8. Wigan added a third in the opening forty as Shea O’Connor rounded the defence to put Wigan out to 14-6 with a successful conversion from Drachenberg.

From the restart, Warrington got one back as Callum Burn went in at the corner, converted by Bishop to close the gap to 12-14.

Wigan responded well though as just minutes later Nathaniel Twiss added his name to the score sheet, mirroring the effort from Warrington with a score in the corner of the field. Yeomans added the extras and it was 20-12 in Wigan’s favour.

Warrington finished strong though as they scored two unanswered tries from Daniel Hackney and a converted effort from Jacob Bull to edge themselves ahead at 22-20 and hold onto the lead for the win.
