Liam Farrell says he expects an intense game against a good side ahead of Thursday’s Betfred Super League Round 7 visit to Leigh Leopards.

The Warriors come into the game on the back on two successive victories against Huddersfield and Salford, with Leigh looking to make it four wins in five Super League games to continue their good start to the season.

“It’s got a little bit of a different feel to it, coming to a press conference at the beginning of the week.” Farrell said

“Some of the good things Leigh are doing and promoting the game. They’ve had a great start to the year on the field and they’ve got some real quality players. Thursday night is going to be a really tough game but I think it’s one we’re ready for.

“We’ve a few intense games over the past few weeks that were tough and close, I think this is going to be pretty similar. Even though it’s a short turnaround, you’ve got to deal with what you’ve been given. We’ve recovered well over the weekend and we’ll be ready come Thursday.”

An incredible atmosphere is expected inside Leigh Sports Village come 8pm, with a strong contingent of Wigan Warriors supporters who will make the short journey to cheer their side on.

Farrell said: “They’re expecting it to be close to a sellout, so I’m expecting our fans to turnout in real good numbers. Hopefully it’s going to be a real good game. They’ve got some great players but if we turn up with the right attitude and get the fans behind us, it can be a really good day for us.”

Super League new boys Leigh have returned to the division following promotion from the Betfred Championship last year, and with a few recognizable ex-Wigan faces amongst their ranks, Liam Farrell says he thinks Leigh have been going well so far this season.

“I think they’ve been great”, Farrell said, “The halves have been really good signings, some ex-players from us as well – Adrian Lam the coach as well, with Josh Charnley on the wing, Jack Hughes, a few others and then Joe Shorrocks on-loan here as well. There are some well known faces at this club that have gone really well for them. But at the same time we’ve got to come here and do a job and it’s going to be an intense game for us.”

Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards have teamed up to use Thursday’s fixture as a ground to help raise funds and awareness for local charity Wigan and Leigh carers centre, with collection buckets jotted around the ground as well as a fanzone including face painting, fairground rides and more!

Farrell said: “Throughout the Wigan and Leigh borough, there’s people struggling and being carers without even knowing they’re being carers. If both clubs can get behind this charity, promote it and help it more, hopefully Thursday night can do that. It’s a really good charity to be involved in and I’m glad we can get it some exposure.”
