Wigan Warriors Reserves secured victory against Huddersfield Giants Reserves on the road at Huddersfield Laund Hill on Saturday morning.

Tries from Abbas Miski, Kieran Tyrer, Jacob Douglas, Tom Forber and two from Alex Sutton helped Wigan secure two wins in two days in West Yorkshire.

Match Summary

The Warriors struck first after eight minutes, with Abbas Miski going over to score the game’s first try. Zach Eckersley stepped up to kick but could not add the extras, leaving the score at 0-4.

Huddersfield looked to respond instantly, going close through Darius Carter who was put into touch. Wigan would respond by scoring from the following set, with Kieran Tyrer scoring the Warriors’ second of the game on 23 minutes, whilst Eckersley converted to extend the lead to 10 points. The hosts got their first try through Codey Downey, with Kieran Rush converting the kick to make it 6-10 going into half time.

Huddersfield took the lead early following the interval, with Jayden Dayes scoring the Giants’ second of the game and Rush converting his kick once again to give the hosts a 12-10 lead.

Wigan would respond and retake the lead only eight minutes later thanks to Jacob Douglas, breaking from deep to go in directly under the sticks. Eckersley added his second conversion of the match to leave the scores at 12-16. With momentum on their side, the Warriors further extended the points deficit only 2 minutes later through Alex Sutton, with Eckersley completing a hat-trick of conversions to give the reserves side a 10-point lead once again.

The Warriors would go on to see out the game, with Tom Forber grabbing another try seven minutes from time, going in under the sticks, added to by yet another Eckersley conversion. Alex Sutton grabbed his second of the match only three minutes later to secure the victory, with Eckersley this time unable to add the extras.
