WWCF connect with Cumbria

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation have been branching out it’s Community engagement across a range of different locations in Cumbria to develop the game and grow the Wigan Warriors brand.

The Wigan Warriors Community Foundation coaches recently delivered a fun day of Rugby skills and challenges, which culminated in a competitive Rugby festival including five different schools in Barrow at the Furness Academy with local Coach, Darren Clarke proving pivotal in delivery to schools in the area ahead of the festival.

The Community Foundation coaches took the Challenge Cup with them as they visited pupils and teachers as part of the Community Foundation’s third Community engagement within the Cumbria region this year and we will be continuing to create more opportunities for all ages to access the Warriors brand in Cumbria.

Craig Maclean, Head of PE at Furness academy said: “It was a great day for everyone involved, including the Year 10 students from Furness Academy who helped support the coaches in the delivery of the sessions. All of the children enjoyed and improved throughout the coaching sessions, which were fun and educational. The festival in the afternoon also allowed them to put their newfound skills to the test during the mini games.

He added: “We were also lucky and privileged to be able to have the Challenge Cup brought to the school, which went down a treat with the students and staff who took the opportunity to get pictures with the trophy.

“I am really looking forward to working with the Wigan Warriors community foundation in the future to give more of the schools and children from the Furness area both in the primary and secondary schools the opportunity to receive high quality excellent coaching from the team.”

Assistant Head of Community, Danny Fullerton said: “The relationships Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are creating across Cumbria through school delivery and Community Club engagement is moving at a rapid pace. Our recent event at Furness academy is just the start of new opportunities for all the local schools to benefit from.

“The facilities at Furness academy are outstanding to host rugby sessions, large rugby festivals and coach professional development. Alongside the school programme, we are committed to ensure the Community Clubs can continue to access the club ambassador sessions hosted by Wigan Warriors first team coaches where they can access free professional advice.”
