Jake Wardle says he can’t wait to make his home debut on Friday as Warriors play host to Wakefield in Round 2.

The centre made his Super League debut for Wigan during Saturday’s 27-18 loss at Hull KR, being named in the starting 13 and even getting on the scoresheet with a try.

“I feel like Hull KR managed the occasion better” he said on Saturday’s game

“The game was built up, there was a good atmosphere and a big crowd. It’s a long season. It’s a matter of taking it week by week. Obviously, at the weekend we slipped up there and for us its about putting it right this weekend.

“It’s only Round 1, there’s still a long way to go. The boys have been training hard and we’re all looking forward to it.”

Wardle was signed from Huddersfield Giants in the off-season and says the success of the club is in part what allured him into making the move, with the centre set to be a key asset to the squad moving forward.

He said: “Like I mentioned before the club has had mega success over the years and that’s something I want to be apart of.

“I wanted a fresh start. Matty giving me the opportunity and I’ve got a really good relationship with Matty anyway so it was something I really wanted to do.

“Obviously speaking to Matty and on the reasons why he signed me, he just wants me to believe in myself. For me, I know what I’m capable of so as long as I do my job for Wigan I don’t really feel the pressure from outside.”

This Friday will see Super League action return to the DW Stadium for the first time in over 5 months as Warriors host Wakefield. Having played 62 times across the league for Huddersfield and Warrington, Wardle is no stranger to the intensity of the arena and how pivotal the fans are in helping making it a difficult place for opponents to come.

“It’s something I’m really looking forward to. All the boys we’ve spoken about it and they love playing at home and its something that I’m really looking forward to doing.” he said

“From my own personal experience , you knew it was going to be a tough place to come. Playing against Wigan, its always been tough. The crowd getting behind them makes it even harder.

“It’s one of the toughest 100% and that’s what we want to make it. We want to make it a difficult place to come. We don’t want teams to come here and enjoy playing us. It’s pretty intimidating from the other side so being on the right side of it I can’t wait to get going.”
