Tom Forber says his debut pre-season with the first team squad has been tough but will continue to work hard.

The young hooker featured in all three pre-season fixtures for Warriors, scoring in the 26-14 defeat at Barrow Raiders, which Forber says can use to build on.

“Full credit to Barrow obviously, they played well and stuck to their game plan and executed it well in the second half” he said.

“I feel like the effort was there from all the lads but maybe a few touch-ups on different things structure wise and different things like that and then maybe it would have been a different game.

“(Pre-season) has been really good. It’s obviously different to your academy pre-season; that bit tougher, a bit more attention to detail but I feel like I’ve done alright in other things as well where I thought maybe it would have been a bit tougher but overall it’s what I expected really from a Wigan first team pre-season.”

The 19 year-old joined the Club at Scholarship level, making his Super League debut against Hull KR in August of last year whilst playing his trade in the Reserves set up, where he’s looking to take the same consistency heading forward.

He said: “We had some ups and and downs, even though we won every week! We had different teams, different players and it was just about the consistency to go out and play our best on the day.

“Sometimes we would have tough weeks at training, where things weren’t quite clicking and stuff like that, but as soon as we got onto the field there we all stuck together and we had a really tight knit group. It was really good to be apart of.”

Named in the first team squad this year, and with Round 1 only eight days away, Forber says that he’ll keep working hard and learning from those around him in order to try break into the line-up at some point this season: “I’m just going to keep training hard” he said, “Just try to learn as much as possible from the likes of Sam Powell, who’s obviously really experienced and a really good player, and learn as much as I can from him really then try add bits from myself and my own game.

“I’ll keep working hard and if I don’t get the breakthrough (for Round 1) hopefully it will come.”
