Chaplain’s Christmas message

A Christmas Eve message from our Club Chaplain, Glen Rickard…

Remember……

Memory is a strange thing. There are some things that I would prefer not to remember but find difficult to forget! Like having to eat Tapioca for School dinner, I still shudder at the memory! Yet, there are other things that I should remember, but seem to forget so easily – like what I just went upstairs for.

However, this year we celebrated our 150th year as a Rugby League Club and we made some great memories along the way. So let’s look back and remember ….

The expression on Liam Marshall’s face when he scored the winning try in the Challenge Cup Final – Unforgettable. Bevan’s incredible record-breaking 7 tries at home against Hull – Pure magic! Thomas Leuluai’s last game and the great send-off we gave him at the DW – a true legend. Matt Peet’s highly successful first season as Head Coach, well done Matt and team, thanks.

There are more great memories, Jai’s blistering bursts, etc., but space doesn’t permit me to go further.

Turning your memory closer to your home. Is there anyone that you should remember this Christmas? Maybe you lost a loved one and the memory is painful? Don’t forget to remember them and celebrate them. It’s good to talk about them with those close to you and even laugh as you recall shared memories.

What about those to whom you owe a debt of gratitude? Who has kept you going this year? Been a lifesaver for you? Remember to take time to connect with them. Do something special for them. A phone call or a visit with a small gift and a card, nothing quite beats the personal touch – better than a Facebook message or WhatsApp. A hug and a “thank you” can mean so much. Be sure to connect and let them know how much they mean to you.

Remember those you love and choose to excuse those who may have upset you. Life is too short, and people to precious, to hold a long-term grudge.

Christmas is a Christian celebration. As Chaplain, I believe that no matter how you feel about yourself, God loves you uniquely! Remember that Jesus came for you! He wants you back. Open your heart to Him this Christmas and allow His light and presence to flood your soul. It’s a memory that you will never forget.

We at Wigan Warriors remember all the great support and help that you, our faithful fans, gave to us this year. We appreciate you. Thanks! We hope to see you in the new season where we aim to make more great and enjoyable memories.

Happy Christmas and a prosperous new year to all!
