Four Warriors featured in round two of the Rugby League World Cup 2021 over the weekend.

England 42-18 France

England made it two from two, confirming a quarter-final spot at the DW Stadium on Saturday 5th November.

Wigan’s John Bateman started in the second row as Shaun Wane’s men put in some good work once more to take the win against a persistent France side. Bateman was influential in England’s fourth try of the afternoon, weaving his way through the defence to send Elliott Whitehead through for a score.

Lebanon 32-14 Ireland

Three Warriors came toe-to-toe on Sunday afternoon as Abbas Miski of Lebanon faced Liam Byrne and Toby King in the Ireland side. It was a feisty affair which saw three sin-bins during the game, but it was the Lebanese who came out on top with some great resilience.

Abbas Miski scored the fourth try of the afternoon for the Cedars as he latched on to a pass on the left wing to dive in at the corner, grounding the ball just in time before being bundled out of play. The 32-14 win for Lebanon puts them in a good position for a quarter-final spot with the Cedars to face Jamaica and Ireland coming up against New Zealand in the final round.

Around the tournament

In the other games, Australia thrashed Scotland 84-0 in Coventry to confirm a quarter-final spot in Huddersfield a week on Friday. Fiji also handed a heavy 60-4 defeat to Italy with both teams now needing a final round for a chance to progress in the competition.

New Zealand were relentless against Jamaica but the Reggae Warriors found some joy as Ben Jones-Bishop scored Jamaica’s first ever try in a Rugby League World Cup. Despite the joy for Jamaica, New Zealand also progressed to the quarter-final stages with their 13-try haul.

Samoa bounced back from their opening round defeat to England to beat Greece 72-4, Samoa will meet France next Sunday with the winner booking their spot in the quarter-finals. The final two games of round two will be complete over the next two days as Tonga face Wales at the Totally Wicked Stadium and Papua New Guinea take on Cook Islands in Warrington on Tuesday.
