Box4Kids enjoy Wigan Warriors experience

At our 2022 Betfred Super League games against Warrington Wolves and Toulouse Olympique, Wigan Warriors, alongside healthy food and drink brand The Skinny Food Co. were able to invite some very deserving children to enjoy a VIP experience at the DW Stadium.

Working with The Barrie Wells Trust as part of the Box4Kids initiative, which provides seriously ill and disabled children with the opportunity to enjoy sporting and entertainment events from the comfort of executive boxes, Wigan Warriors and healthy food brand The Skinny Food Co. donated private boxes and gifts to children.

Designed to give them the full match day VIP experience with Wigan Warriors, this included an opportunity to meet the players, watch the game in their own private box and to enjoy some great-tasting, healthy food.

One boy who attended the Wigan v Toulouse game with his dad is a newly diagnosed diabetic. Having recently started playing rugby he was very excited to attend his first Wigan Warriors match: “My son and his dad had a fantastic time, they couldn’t believe how lucky they were to meet some of the players! This experience gave him the opportunity to put his diabetes diagnosis to the back of his mind and enjoy the match with his dad.

“I also wanted to say a huge thank you for arranging the extras of scarves, flags, and The Skinny Food Co. treats on the table, you really did go above and beyond to make a very memorable day for the children.”

Another 10-year old boy attended the Wigan v Warrington game and said ‘he had the BEST time ever, it was a wonderful experience & the best day of his life!’

Speaking about the experience, his mum said: “It was so lovely to see him fully enjoying himself. The past couple of years have been so difficult for him, having to undergo numerous hospital admissions and currently regular intravenous antibiotics at home. My son is a wheelchair user, but he was so determined not to use it at the match & he was so proud of himself when he got home!”

Barrie Wells MBE, founder and funder of the charity said: “We were absolutely delighted and so grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with Wigan Warriors and The Skinny Food Co. The club and The Skinny Food Co have been brilliant donating two games this season, their very generous support ensuring that these special days for very deserving children are made possible.”

CEO and co-founder, Wayne Starkey commented: “We are delighted to have brought joy to the children who attended The Skinny Food Co. table and hospitality area.”

Adding to this, James Whiting, Director and founder at The Skinny Food Co. said: “We are passionate about giving back to important causes like the Barrie Wells Trust Box4ids initiative and we look forward to continue supporting important initiatives with Wigan Warriors in the future.”
