Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are seeking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Sports Coach to deliver high quality sports sessions to local primary schools.

The main purpose of this role is to deliver high quality of Sport, P.E. and Physical Activity provision at a selected primary school who engage with Wigan Warriors Community Foundation. Providing opportunities to access healthy recreation, sports participation, and educational opportunities. Throughout all out-reach work the key agenda is to create a culture of engagement within young people, empowering them to be more active and creating a positive culture of physical literacy for primary school children.

As part of your training, you will complete a Level 4 Qualification in Schools Sports Coaching as well as gain valuable experience working in a full-time school environment within a high performing primary school. People with a strong background in sports participation and coaching, would be warmly welcomed. The ability to start immediately would be desirable.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead a variety of sessions to make PE fun whilst keeping an appropriate level of discipline.
  • Support the School across all areas of responsibility providing support in meeting key objectives.
  • Show an eagerness to learn by shadowing more experienced teachers and coaches.
  • Work towards and achieve all aspects of a Level 4 apprenticeship standard in a timely manner.
  • Support teachers in the planning and implementation of innovative and engaging Sports and P.E. within the school.
  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the headteacher, mentor and class teachers.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes for students and help monitor their progress.
  • Provide support for individual learners inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
  • Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records.
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
  • Support the preparation, delivery and evaluation of the Sport PE and Physical Activity extra-curricular offer.
  • Support the delivery of School Sport and PE curriculum.
  • Support the aims and ethos of the school.
  • Prepare and present displays of student’s work.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Attend team and school/staff meetings as required.
  • Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the headteacher or line manager.
  • Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.

Additional responsibilities:

  • To ensure the retention of valid and appropriate qualifications as identified in the person specification.
  • To work hours as directed by the school including after school.
  • To attend relevant training for all the Level 4 School Sports Coach Qualification workshops.
