Peet: Professional performance

  • Matt Peet reflects on Wigan’s win over Catalans on Friday night.
  • Warriors remained unbeaten at home throughout the regular Betfred Super League season.
  • Peet: “They worked hard, made us work for our points, on the whole I thought we got the job done.”

Head Coach Matt Peet says Wigan Warriors got the “job done” in the victory against a youthful Catalans Dragons side on Friday night.

The Warriors ran out 48-4 winners at the DW Stadium to remain unbeaten at home throughout the regular Betfred Super League season.

He told the press after the game: “It was a tricky game, but I thought it was professional, particularly at the start I thought we was pretty good in our effort, and I thought Catalans were very determined. They worked hard, made us work for our points, on the whole I thought we got the job done.”

Peet was asked about Cade Cust who seemed to suffer an arm injury in the win and could be a doubt going into the Betfred Super League Play-Off Semi Final in two weeks’ time.

“He’s injured his arm; he’ll need a scan.”

When the Head Coach was asked if Cust could feature again this campaign, Peet kept his answer vague. He said: “He could be, if you’re asking me what I think, I think he might miss out but what I think doesn’t really matter.”

Peet also commented on the future of Liam Farrell’s season, saying it will be “touch and go” for the veteran second rower and revealing the injury he suffered in the Derby win against St Helens.

He told the press: “He’s got a grade one ACL and a grade one MCL so it will be touch and go.”

Thomas Leuluai joined Peet in the post-match press conference and was asked about how he felt after returning from injury – in the same week he announced he would retire from Rugby League at the end of this season.

The Captain said: “I really enjoyed it, worked pretty hard off the field to get back, felt a bit rusty out there a little bit but I was glad to get out there and contribute.

“I just wanted to say thank you to the fans for being fantastic to me throughout my career at the Club, really taken me in so I wanted to make sure I said thank you to them afterwards.”

Peet ended the press conference by praising Catalans and the young team they fielded at the DW Stadium

There were 10 debutants on show for the Dragons and Peet commented: “I think it was credit to French Rugby League, there has been quite a bit been said about rugby in France, but I think pretty much their Reserves to come and compete like that, it’s a testament to whatever work they have been doing.”
