Coach quotes

Speaking to wiganwarriors.com ahead of the game, Head Coach Kris Ratcliffe said: “It’s a clean slate for us this week, semi final knockout football. York are a great side and deservedly won the league leaders shield but this is a different competition now.

“In all knockout games it’s about handling the pressure and playing with composure and consistency. It’s our first time in the finals for a couple of years and first occasion for most of our players so it’s certainly one for them to look forward to and relish. We will undoubtedly go in as big underdogs but we know that we can compete with them and cause them problems. We just need to concentrate on our execution and detail for the full 80.”

He added: ‘We are confident that it will be our best performance of the season, the occasion and opposition will demand that. We will be in a position to field our strongest side of the season with the return of Lauréane [Biville] from her French World Cup camp and the long-awaited return from injury of Alison Burrows. They will add more experience and composure to our team. Big game players for the big occasion.

“There’s been a good buzz about training this week, everyone is excited and looking forward to the game and hopefully we can push hard for a place in the Grand Final.”
