Coach quotes
Speaking to wiganwarriors.com ahead of the game, Head Coach Kris Ratcliffe said: “The York game was certainly an improved performance, we were right in the mix just a score behind at half time despite not having the best start. We fell off intensity around 55 minutes and the challenge remains for the final games of the year to be consistent and maintain intensity for the duration of the game.
“We have been working on our attack with some subtle changes to shape and focus and we saw glimpses in our last game of that bearing some rewards. The more we threaten in attack the easier it becomes to defend against our opponents because we are causing them mental and physical stress by applying pressure. We know the size of the challenge in the remaining games of the season. Who we face won’t make much of a difference, they all have outstanding attacking players and tough uncompromising defence.”
On the derby, he added: “Derby week is always special. The motivation to do well in front of home fans will be really high. The girls would hugely appreciate a big loud crowd shouting them encouragement to keep battling at the high intensity demanded of a Wigan v Saints derby. We should be close to fielding our strongest lineup of the year with only Lauréane missing from recent weeks, she has returned to France for a training camp in preparation for the World Cup.”
