  • FT | Wigan Warriors 52-6 Toulouse Olympique.

Matt Peet described Wigan’s win over Toulouse a ‘professional performance’ as the Warriors ran in nine tries at the DW Stadium.

Speaking at full time, Peet said: “Job done. It was a professional performance, I think the lads applied themselves and were committed and brought energy at the right times. I don’t think it was there for 80-minutes, you could see that we’d come off the back of a short turnaround but when we needed to raise the intensity of the game, I thought we did.

“I thought the individuals that we brought in, namely Abbas, inspired us through the energy that he brought.”

Seated beside Abbas Miski for his post match press conference, Peet was full of praise for the Lebanese winger: “I just love the way he has conducted himself in the weeks when he hasn’t been selected as well, not happy but respectful, understanding, determined and supportive – everything you want in a team mate. A good Club man and most importantly not satisfied, he’s not happy missing out and there’s other lads who miss out occasionally and it all bodes well, one that he supports his team mates and does the right thing and two it’s competition and it keeps the bar high going into this part of the season where it’s going to be a 30-man game in the next few weeks.”

Wigan also welcomed back John Bateman and Liam Farrell from injury lay-offs: “I thought they both had some good moments in the game but they just lift us, lift our standards and talk in the changing rooms leadership-wise. It probably wasn’t the ideal game where you see that leadership but going into the later stage of the season they’re going to be invaluable.”

With just three games left of the regular season, Peet stressed that the wins need to continue: “We need to be building now, we need to keep picking up the two-points to secure second place but really it’s just about playing our best. We’re at that point now where we have got confidence that if we bring our best game, we will compete with the best teams and we’ve shown that at times this year.”
