Kaide Ellis says games against Warrington Wolves are ‘always physical’ as they prepare to face off at the DW Stadium this Friday night in Betfred Super League.

“We’ve played them twice already this year and they always seem to be really physical games. They’re very tiring and end-to-end games so we expect the same thing and they need to get a win which makes it dangerous as well.

“They’re a very good squad, so we’ll have to be on and show how consistent we can be rather than win, loss, win, loss – we’re expecting a very tough Warrington squad.”

On what we can expect of the fixture, he added: “Both teams will be looking to rip each other’s heads off in that first twenty minutes which is what you want, and what the fans want as well. It’s always better when the opening of the first half is physical so we can expect that and both times we’ve played them it has had that physical side of it.”

The game also sees the two sides face off for the Locker Cup for the first time in three years: “It’s pretty cool, it’s always nice to play for a trophy and I think with that in mind both teams will naturally lift. It’s always nice to win a bit of silverware and get one up on the other team so it’s cool, it’s been around for a bit so it’s good to play in it, the first game bringing it back.”

On 18th January 1873, Wigan played their first ever game as a Rugby League Club – against Warrington. Friday’s game will see the whole Club come together to celebrate 150 years of history, as we encourage all fans to wear your retro shirts. Ellis also looking forward to it: “I hope we can put another one on the board but other than that it should be a good night.

“We’re looking forward to it, Wigan and Warrington are both proud in their history so it’ll be cool to be out there amongst it and hopefully get a fair few out there for a big game.”
