After a slow start to the game, Wigan set the tone as Bevan French scored four first half tries alongside an effort from Jai Field to rack up a 28-0 lead at the break.

French added a hat-trick of second half tries, to see him set the new record of seven tries in a game, as Field also crossed again in the second forty. Liam Marshall and Harry Smith wrapped up the 60-0 win for Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Report

It was a stale first 10 minutes as Hull FC saw Chris Satae leave the field after just 15 seconds for a concussion assessment and both sides struggled to find their feet in the opening stages.

Wigan found the flair though as they opened the scoring through Bevan French in the 14th minute, linking up with Jai Field on the right edge to go over. Just minutes later and the Aussie duo paired up again, Field chased a Smith kick through to find French in support to go in for his second at the right corner. Smith added both conversion attempts from the touchline to give Wigan the 12-0 lead.

The Warriors extended their lead in the 24th minute, Hull threatened the Wigan goal line but the ball went to ground on the last tackle for Jai Field to scoop up the ball and race the length of the field and score on the left edge, with the extras missed it was 16-0.

Bevan French added his hat-trick try in the 33rd minute, once again supporting the run of Jai Field to go over and extend the lead for Wigan. French wasn’t done there though, as he added a fourth first half try. Hull lost the ball past their own goal line and French only had to touch the ball to confirm Wigan’s fifth score, Smith converted to see Wigan in with the 28-0 lead at the interval.

French picked up where he left off in the first half as he scored almost immediately from the restart. Getting the ball 30m, French weaved his way through the Hull back line to finish off a fantastic solo effort and make it 34-0 with a conversion from Harry Smith.

Jai Field then got back in on the act, going over for his second of the evening in the 48th minute. A big hit from Patrick Mago got Wigan in space to see Cade Cust break the line and get a well-timed offload to the oncoming Jai Field to crash under the sticks. Smith added the two and Wigan were 40-0 up.

Bevan French added another two tries in quick succession to set a Super League record of seven tries in a game, as he took Wigan up to the half century before the hour mark.

Wigan finished with a flourish as two tries in the final saw Liam Marshall fly in at the left wing, before Harry Smith rounded off proceedings to confirm a 60-0 win for the Warriors.
