Lancashire lead in Academy Origin

  • Six Warriors featured as Lancashire beat Yorkshire 38-20 in Academy Origin.
  • Douglas, Eckersley, Hill, Nsemba and Wood all featured for Lancashire.
  • Ellis Hobson pulled on the shirt at interchange for Yorkshire.

Lancashire took a 2-0 lead in this year’s three-match Academy Origin series thanks to an outstanding second half display at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Jacob Douglas, Zach Eckersley, Harvie Hill, Junior Nsemba and Max Wood were all included in the Lancashire team, with Zach Eckersley a new addition following the first win of the series. Ellis Hobson was also included for Yorkshire, having missed out on the first encounter.

Zach Eckersley was involved as he helped send Jake Thewlis over on the left edge just before half time as Lancashire reduced an early deficit to 14-10 in Yorkshire’s favour. Despite a further score from Yorkshire after the restart Lancashire scored four unanswered tries in the final thirty minutes to ensure a second victory in the three-part series.

Wigan’s Junior Nsemba handed a superb offload to Ben Lane in support who then send Zach Eckersley over for a score for the Warriors man. Fellow Warrior Harvie Hill then added the penultimate score as he drove the ball in to score under the uprights as Lancashire took a 32-20 win on Sunday evening.
