  • Peet: “He has done damage to his MCL and he will probably miss six weeks.

Matt Peet has provided an update on Iain Thornley and Cade Cust whilst confirming that Kai Pearce-Paul is back in contention.

Pearce-Paul was forced from the field with torn ligaments in Wigan’s 20-0 victory over Salford Red Devils on 25th March but is now back available for the first time, and has been named in Matt Peet’s 21-player squad ahead of Friday’s fixture.

On Pearce-Paul, Peet said: “Kai is ready, we are mindful of his game time but he’s in fantastic condition, he’s been training outstanding to be honest.

“He’s such a good lad, he works hard and has been a credit to everyone with the way he has trained through his injury. For a young player like him, that first injury you get for an extended period can be a real learning curve for you and he’s certainly attacked it with the same sort of intensity that we’ve seen in his practice in the past.”

Iain Thornley remains sidelined after sustaining an MCL injury away to Castleford Tigers in Round 14, whilst Cade Cust also remains unavailable following a dislocated elbow in the Betfred Challenge Cup Final.

Peet did not give a timeframe on a return for the two players, but did make comment on their progress: “Cade Cust and Iain [Thornley] are a little bit off yet.

“Generally, I think we’re in good shape and all those players [Kai Pearce-Paul, Cade Cust and Iain Thornley] are going to come back and add to us.”

Finally, Peet added that Jai Field is not a concern after reporting a tweak in the last round against Salford Red Devils: “Jai is alright, he’s had a lot of treatment, looked after himself well and he should be in the mix going forward but it’s important that we keep an eye on him because he’s had his issues in the past. He has a very individualised programme to keep his hamstring strong, so he’s robust which you find with fast athletes.”
