Report

Hull KR had the better of the early exchanges and they reaped the rewards as Zach Fishwick went over in the 9th minute. From the play the ball the full-back put in a teasing grubber kick for Fishwick to chase and put down, converted for 6-0.

Wigan responded ten minutes later as they worked their way upfield and Zach Eckersley fired a pass out to Reagan Sumner on the right wing to send the winger over, though Wigan couldn’t level the scores with a missed conversion.

Rovers hit back with two more tries in ten minutes as they built up a lead going into the break. The first effort came in the 24th minute as a looping kick on the last wasn’t dealt with and Hull KR full-back Harvey Horne scooped up the loose ball to get the score. That was before Owen Maull received an inside ball to crash over close to the uprights, both converted to give the hosts an 18-4 lead.

Wigan were then down to 12-men for the second half as Maddox Jeffrey misjudged a tackle and saw red from the referee just before the half time hooter.

After an early scare in the second half with another testing grubber kick, Wigan added an important response to reduce the deficit Max Wood broke the line to go close, but the follow-up play allowed Pinder to send it right from the play-the-ball and see Sumner over for his second of the afternoon to make it 18-8 with another missed conversion.

Hull KR extended their lead in the 50th minute, this time AJ Chambers going over after supporting Kieran Smith who weaved through the defensive line before getting the offload away. Horne made it four from four with the conversions to make it 24-8 with half an hour to play.

Wigan closed the gap in the 70th minute as Eckersley broke the line before sending Jacob Douglas through on the left wing, the effort was converted but it wasn’t enough for Wigan who finished the game with a 24-14 defeat.
