Mike Cooper to join Wigan

Wigan Warriors are delighted to announce the signing of prop forward Mike Cooper for the 2023 season.

Cooper will join on an initial 12-month deal with a further 12-month option. He will link-up with the Club at the end of this season once his contract with Warrington Wolves has expired.

The 33-year-old England international will bring an end to a 14-year career with Warrington over two spells. To date, he has played 235 games for his hometown Club.

Between 2014 and 2016, he played 69 games for St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL. Following his return to Warrington, he won the Challenge Cup in 2019 and was awarded a testimonial a year later.

A member of the 2020 Super League Dream Team, the 6ft 1 forward is renowned for his tireless and consistent performances and having a powerful offensive game in both attack and defence.

Cooper has also represented England – featuring for the Knights in 2011 and 2012 before playing for the first team against France and New Zealand in 2015. He has eight caps to date.

On signing for the Warriors, Cooper said: “To be offered the opportunity to join Wigan is a huge honour for me.

“Once I’d spoke to Matty [Peet] I knew straight away this was the right move. I have plenty left in the tank and I will join this great Club with a huge drive to be successful and win trophies.

“First of all, I want to earn the respect of all players, staff and supporters and I’ll do everything I can to add to the fantastic culture that runs throughout the Club.”
