Oliver Partington said the Warriors ‘dug in deep’ after finding themselves 12-points down to overturn the result and come away from Castleford with a win.

“It’s massive,” he said. “If you look at the results we came away with before the Final, we were on the wrong side of them. It was right to put a good performance in and get the two points most importantly.”

Questioned on what was said at half time, when the Warriors were 12-4 down: “We need to tighten up in defence, get our stuff on and points will come because of the calibre of our back line and that’s exactly what happened. We dug in deep when we had some tough spells and the backs gave us the points.”

The appearance was Partington’s first for a few weeks, but he explains he is happy to compete for his place: “I think we’ve just got a good squad here and when they play it’s right for the team, or when they miss out that’s the right thing for the team. I’m just happy to be a part of it, play when I can and do my best.”

He added: “I’m sure we’ve given him [Matt Peet] a few headaches today but I’m guessing that’s exactly what he wants. If I can make the team better by pushing other people to stay in the team or taking someone out of the team then so be it, and I think the whole squad knows that.”
