Matt Peet said he was ‘delighted’ as Wigan came from behind to score 32 unanswered points on Saturday afternoon in a ‘stand out’ performance on the road.

“I’m delighted,” Peet said when considering team records following Challenge Cup Finals. “I’m really pleased, we spoke about the fact that only two teams in the last 10 years have done it and we thought it was a good marker for where we are as a group. It’s probably the most proud I’ve been of the group this year, we’ve had some good wins but this is a stand out one.”

He added: Castleford started the game really well and early doors it was good to see that we were here for the battle. Once we got to half time and we knew that physicality and energy levels weren’t going to be an issue then we could talk about winning the game and that’s what we did.”

Peet was particularly proud of the players he brought in, having made five changes ahead of the fixture: “I’m really proud of the group and their commitment levels. The lads who had a big effect on the game today were lads who haven’t been playing consistently.

“I thought Oliver Partington was outstanding off the bench, Patrick Mago had a big influence on the game and Ethan Havard. The fact that we brought Willie Isa and Sam Powell in who haven’t been playing big minutes recently, the energy they brought was a big difference in the end.”

On Liam Marshall, who scored two to make it 100 Career tries on his 100th Super League appearance: “I admire the way he plays the game. As well as the flair, speed and instinct that he’s got, I think Wigan fans can see that he plays with passion for the Club in attack and defence.”

Questioned on the absence of John Bateman, Peet confirmed: “We always knew there was a chance that Amy, John’s partner, could go into labour this weekend. We just thought we’d give John the weekend off to be there and support her and hopefully we get some good news in the coming few days and we’ll all be made up for him.”

With a few rotations of positions this week, Peet added: “Whatever the team is, we expect our players to adapt. If we really turn up for one another and work hard in defence, the combinations will work themselves out in attack.”
