Peet: Response was positive

  • FT | Hull FC 31-22 Wigan Warriors.

Matt Peet gave his thoughts as Wigan fell to a 31-22 defeat in the Betfred Super League on Saturday afternoon.

“The overwhelming feeling isn’t frustration it’s more about the things we can learn and I saw some good signs,” Peet said.

“There’s plenty of lessons to learn but I’m glad we don’t have to talk about our energy or desire. There’s a few technical things we need to fix, the start hurt us as we came up against a strong team.”

He added: “I thought we were resilient. There was a time where Hull were clearly the better team, got a few scores and that’s credit to them but our response was positive. We worked our way back into the game but things didn’t play out in the second half but it wasn’t through a lack of effort.”

Peet was honest as he reflected on the opening 20-minutes in which Wigan conceded three tries: “Some of the things we did, particularly in those first 20 minutes – you can’t do against any team. It’s not a matter of moving on, it’s fixing what we just did to go a long way going into next week.”

Jake Bibby left the field, as Peet confirmed it was more of a precautionary measure: “Jake had a bit of tightness in the groin, we think he’ll be okay, it’s something he’s had before. Other than that, fortunately no new major worries.”

Summarising, the Warriors boss saw the result as a good opportunity going into next week’s Betfred Challenge Cup Final: “There’s a couple of decisions to be made. I’ll have to watch it back and consider everything, in many ways I thought it was a quality and intense game – really good preparation. You want to win but everyone has come through healthy and we were beaten by a good team.”
