Future Warriors gameday experiences

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation welcomed over 500 junior community players to Robin Park and joined in the Fun activities before Wigan v Wakefield on Easter Monday and then Wigan v Salford on the following Sunday.

Both days where great fun for all ages that included the Davanti passing challenge, kicking contest and fun rugby related games with foundation coaches and Warrior super league squad players.

Foundation activities ran alongside the popular fan village entertainment where families are welcome to have a drink and enjoy the pre match entertainment which included a live band, Q & A with some players giving an insight to the team’s preparation.

On the main pitch there was a Learning disability Super League exhibition with 3 local teams Wigan, Salford, and Warrington which was played in a great spirit in front of a great crowd encouraging all the participants.

Community outreach officer, Mike Stoneley said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for us to be able to showcase everything that Learning Disability Super League is about. At Wigan Warriors we are proud to offer opportunities for all ages and abilities through our Learning Disability, Physical Disability and Wheelchair teams who were all in attendance on the day.”

In attendance to both the Warriors home games club ambassadors from all over the northwest and Cumbria, including Maryport, Millom, Egremont, Hindpool and Barrow Island attended the exciting game day pre match entertainment.

Before the Wigan and Wakefield game Wigan St Judes and Westhoughton Lions joined in with the flag waving and guard of honour experiences. Wigan v Salford was themed as a Davanti takeover where the flag waving and the guard of honour was represented by all Hindley juniors that proudly shown off the sponsored kits.

At halftime we also had the new community club challenge Davanti Dash where two juniors had a 100m race against each other in front of a packed South stand. Going head-to-head were John Burgess of Hindley and Malarchy Donohue of Westhoughton Lions and both juniors proudly represented their community club in the exciting new half time challenge.

Head of Community Foundation, Martin McLoughlin added: “Fan engagement has never been more important, the Community Foundation is delivering to record numbers and it’s important we not only showcase the fantastic work that is being done but also generate positive presence, profile and brand through strategic delivery in areas of potential fan growth.

“We have increased the number of community groups and school partnerships who can access group tickets through the club ambassador scheme, included  creative and innovative pre match activity as part of the fan Village build up and worked with Matt Peet and his performance team to raise the profile of the team and players in our communities through the Warriors Unite program. Keep an eye on the clubs social media channel for more exciting upcoming events and matchday news.”

The next Wigan home fixture is against Toulouse Friday 24th June where we are planning more fun related pre-game entertainment to all juniors and families at Robin Park.
