Peet previews Wolves

  • Matt Peet spoke to the press on Wednesday afternoon to look ahead to Round 11 of Betfred Super League.
  • Peet: “Normally it has a play-off feel about it when these two teams play and hopefully that is what we can put on for the fans on Friday evening.”
  • Warrington Wolves v Wigan Warriors, Friday 29th April, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet says he expects an ‘intense game’ as the Warriors take on Warrington Wolves this Friday evening.

Reflecting on the narrow win over Salford on Sunday, Peet said: “We move on quickly from the Salford game, we knew that was a tough encounter at the end of the Easter period. We learnt some lessons around our new combinations and we’ll tighten a few things up there but on the whole pleased with the effort, desire and we look to build on cohesion.”

Looking ahead to Friday’s game, he said: “There’s a lot of players and staff in both camps that have been at both Clubs. They are a Club that we have a lot of respect for and we appreciate how they go about their business, we know it’ll be a really intense game, normally it has a play-off feel about it when these two teams play and hopefully that is what we can put on for the fans on Friday evening.”

Warrington have won the last three competitive meetings between the Clubs, something which Peet insists the Warriors will be trying their best to overturn: “They’ll be well aware that they’ve had the knock on us for the last few years. Last year, it felt like they were quite strong against us, I think they’ll be expecting to win.

“They’ve been turning us over recently,  they’ll be full of confidence, their players are used to beating us in the last few meetings. We’ll be trying our hardest but we know we come up against a tough team that are desperate to find form, they come off the back of a win over a top side in Huddersfield, it looks like the tides are turning for Warrington and we know we’ll have our hands full.”

Questioned on Cade Cust and what he has brought to the team in his first few months at the Club, Peet said: “We’re really pleased with him and we feel that he is building as well. To settle into the Country, Club and competition in the way that he has, it’s not easy and we’re pleased with the way he has gone about his business. He has immersed himself in the town and in the Club and we love him to bits. He has a real competitive nature, he runs the ball but most importantly he’s a good fella.”
