Bevan French said it was ‘good to be back on the scoreboard’ as he ran in two fantastic tries in the Warriors 54-10 win over Wakefield in Round 9 of Betfred Super League.
Speaking on his two tries, French said: “We want to link up in the back field, get on the kick returns and obviously I was just supporting on the second one but to get over the try line, it’s been a few weeks without one so it was good. By the end of the game tries were coming easy but they just happened off the back of our game plan. Overall, good to be back and back on the scoreboard.”
He added: “We weren’t so much focused on getting a big win today, we just wanted to show that we can continue to turn up for one another. It was a big scoreline in the end but the composure we showed in how the boys handled the second half it was very cut throat. To stick with the game plan even though we were so far ahead is good to see.”
On the end of the Easter Weekend, he said: “Today was more of a test from a mental side, it’s the first time I’ve done the Easter Weekend of footie and three games in eight days isn’t easy on the body. I’ll take confidence out of this performance, so it’s hopefully not too long before I’m back to my absolute best. I know I still have a couple of things to work on, in being back to my best I’ve got to be prepared for any position.”
Peet was able to rest French in the second half of the game with Wigan in some breathing space at the break: “Given the big chunk of pre-season that I missed, and three games in eight days is definitely taxing on the body so it was good that we were in a position to do that.
“I’m looking forward to some rest, and I think the boys as a group have earned that rest too after the last eight days. I’m sure we’ll rest up and we’re really looking forward to Sunday.”
